THE CHALLENGE

E.ON had partnered with Berkeley homes to offer a range of smart home products that customers could choose to install in their new homes. Our task was to create an inspiring website to educate customers on the product benefits and encourage them to ask for more details when they have their face to face spec meeting.

MY ROLE

I worked with the creative team to bring their ideas to life and advise on the user experience ensuring that all customer tasks were easily achieved and all content easily accessible. This involved persona creation, wireframes and prototyping.

THE APPROACH

We kicked the project off with research to understand the customer and create personas which fed into the content and design. I worked with the creative team from the outset to ensure all options presented to the client were viable. I helped the creatives get the design signed of by creating interactive prototypes throughout the process. Interaction documents and technical specifications were created to help the development team with the build of the website.

SELLING THE CREATIVE TO THE CLIENT

A brief was put to the creative teams to develop high level concepts to inspire buyers to opt-in to hear more information about Smart products at their spec meeting. Three concepts were presented to the client, each varying in technical complexity and approach. The initial presentation consisted of scamps drawn up by the art director. On the right is the scamps from the chosen route.

MY ROLE

My role was to work with the creative team to develop the ideas and advise on the User Experience and how the concepts mapped back to the personas created.

My first task was to hold stakeholder interviews with the E.ON and Berkeley Home teams to gain some customer insights and develop personas that reflect the target customers. We came away with two key findings. The first was that there were a high proportion of buyers from china investing in homes for their children. The second was that were are targeting the more eco-conscious segment.

USABILITY TESTING

The prototype was taken in testing with users and we gained some key insights on the usability of the product. For example, an accordian functionality on the mobile was missed by many users so this was addressed as we progressed further.

WIREFRAMES AND PROTOTYPE

Once a route had been chosen I developed wireframes across desktop, tablet and phone. These wireframes bought the concept to life for the client and was the first opportunity for them to see the user experience and interactions in full.

OVERSEEING UI DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

Once the wireframe prototypes were signed off we moved into UI design and briefing the development teams. I created animation and interaction guides for the development teams to follow.
