Create a useful and inspirational tool that amateur and professional photographers can use to find amazing locations for photoshoots either before or during a trip.

THE CHALLENGES

The main challenges were to understand exactly what features photographers would find useful when researching locations, and to decide how broad the target audience should be. Another challenge was to ensure that the app I created had strong and unique features that set it apart from the competition.

THE APPROACH

To address some of the challenges mentioned above I interviewed a wide range of photographers from amateurs to professionals and across various disciplines.

This gave me insight into how they prepare for a photoshoot or trip and what tools they are already using for their research. A round of synthesis and affinity mapping allowed me to group my findings and draw some clear conclusions.

COMPETITOR RESEARCH

PROPOSITION RESEARCH

Once I understood the potential audience I started to research some of the competitors. From the interviews I was surprised by the tools they used which enabled me to do a broader piece of competitor analysis than maybe I otherwise would.

THE FINAL RESULT

Next step was to create personas to ensure that any decisions made around features and functionality were always grounded in what is important to the target audience and the personas I'd created.

I then created User Stories and Problem Statements. Again this was to ensure any future decisions were faithful to my previous findings.

Simple low fidelity wireframes were then created to test initial designs and features and to test the usability without the expense of time consuming re-working.

The testing raised some interesting results and demonstrated how different users interpret various different pieces of functionality.

After a couple of rounds of low fidelity testing I moved on to medium fidelity wireframes.
