YES CHEF! MOBILE APP

RESEARCH SYNTHESIS

The Challenges

Our challenge was to create a mobile
app that improved the grocery
shopping experience.

In order to create something truly useful
I needed to understand more about the
potential users and their current frustrations.

I embarked on some market research by
way of an online survey. The survey was split into 3 parts; general question about the participant, the pre-shopping experience
and the in-store experience.

The results gave me a much better understanding of some of the areas people find frustration and highlighted so key areas for further exploration.

From the survey results there were 3 sets of answers in particular that showed a common trend or shared frustration. I started to focus on these areas in more detail and brainstorm ideas for an app that would help solve this common area of contention.

Once I had mapped out my idea and some of the functionality I felt it needed I developed a set of wireframes that bought it to life.

My user testing gave me some valuable feedback before moving forward with my high fidelity prototype.
Users not only highlighted any glitches or areas that need clearer explanation but also some added
features for the app.

PROTOTYPING AND USER TESTING

A mobile app that delivers inspiring recipe ideas on the go -
all tailored to the store you are shopping in at that moment.

To deliver in-store recipe inspiration tailored to the
stores you shop in most.

Yes Chef enables customers to scan one food product they would like to build
a recipe around and the app will deliver recipe ideas containing that ingredient.
All results will be selected based upon known ingredients that store sells and
will also tell the user what aisle they can find the product in.

THE YES CHEF! GOAL

46.9% of participants used a pen & paper
to write their grocery list.

This stood out as being a larger number
than I would have expected. In the digital
age I would have expected more people
to use some kind of app or digital
notebook to make their lists.

I considered an app to assist in grocery
list creation.

80.6% of participants found themselves making recipes upon the fly whilst doing their shopping.

I found this interesting and felt that there
might be some possibilities here to offer up recipes in a simple manner based upon a couple of inputs from the customer.

50% of participants would like more recipe inspiration whilst doing their shopping.

This also seems like quite a large number especially if you included the participants
that answered maybe. This answer in conjunction with the previous answer encouraged me to explore this route further.

The final stage was to develop a working prototype taking on board all of my findings so far. Screenshots are shown below or you can see a working prototype using the link below.
